MID 19TH CENTURY PARASOL, FOLDING HANDLE, PLAID SILK, TASSLE

Description

This is a mid, 19th century folding parasol. The handle is wood, painted off white, with a carved acorn at the tip. The ferrule is in a carved bellflower design, and looks to be of vegetable ivory.
The silk cover is in two shades of blue, and a light brown, there are black silk velvet strips attached to the cover, and a black silk velvet “ruffle” just below the ferrule. There is a blue silk tassel around the ferrule.
There is a brass slider to hold the two pieces in place. The outer ribs are metal, the inner, baleen, the tips are bone.
It measures 29 7/8″ long.
In good condition. There are four areas where the silk is separating at a seam, this is at the top, near the ferrule. Two are about 3″, two others are about 1″.
There are 3 small places where the silk is starting to split, this is near the edge of the cover, where the “tips” are. One is about 1 1/2″ the other about 1″, one is about 1/2″.  There are some small brown spots scattered around. There is one brass hook sewn to the edge. I don’t see any evidence of anything that might have been attached to it.
The wood has split, just where the brass cuff holds it open. A tiny sliver of wood, at the most, might be missing, and it looks as if it could be glued together and look fairly good. You can see this in the 5th picture. The split to the wood is to the left, the area to the right is not a split, but is to accommodate the hinge inside the handle.
There is a tiny piece of one of the “rings” missing around the acorn design at the tip of the handle. One of the tips looks to have been resewn. Any fading to the color is from the lighting.
